

Marilyn "Mari" C. Reney, of Old Saybrook, Connecticut passed away on March 2, 2016. Mari was born to parents Andrew and Laura Mehoke in Terre Haute, Indiana on July 2, 1932, and grew up in Terre Haute and Brazil, Indiana. Mari had three step-siblings, the children of her step-father, the late Edward Hauer: the late Edward Hauer, Jr., Thomas Hauer of Monticello, Indiana, and Maryann Schmidt of Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated from Brazil High School in Brazil, Indiana, in 1950. Mari attended Indiana University, majoring in drama. She began her career working in California and New York in the production side of the film and television industry at MGM and NBC. Mari and her first husband, the late David Reed, had three children: Sharon Reed of Ashburn, VA; Camille Cooper-Kerigan of Norwich, CT, and Juliet Amann of Springfield, VA. Mari has eight grandchildren: Melissa Abboud, Jessica Abboud, Andrea Abboud, Daniel Abboud, Kevin Cooper, John Amann, Kathleen Amann, and Michael Amann, and a great-grandchild Bryan Cooper. Mari married her second husband, the late Laurence F. Reney, in 1978. Reney was a social studies teacher at the Old Saybrook Junior High. He served as the First Selectman of the Town of Old Saybrook in the mid 1990's. Reney had five children from a previous marriage. Mari and Laurence were best known for their co-owned educational travel business. They organized and lead groups of travelers to over 30 countries and U.S. destinations on tours. Both felt that seeing the world—and showing others--was a true joy in life. Mari was very active in charitable organizations, including the Old Saybrook Lioness Club and was a former president of the Old Saybrook Women's Club. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and reading about history. Mari will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Cypress Cemetery on April 30 at 10 am. A reception will follow at the Saybrook Point Inn.
