Mary Jane Drew of Westbrook, CT, formerly of Old Westbury, NY and Jamesport, NY ("Janie's Port," as she called it), passed peacefully at home on May 30, 2021, surrounded by her devoted family and lifelong best friends.
Jane was born on May 12, 1953, in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Peter and Anita Trozzo. She studied nursing and cheered for the hockey team at Fairfield University, where she fell in love with a defensemen and met her best friends who were by her side when the angels guided her home. A nurturing soul and a caregiver at heart, she earned her Master's in Public Health and pursued her lifelong dream of motherhood, raising two children while proudly serving her community as a Registered Nurse and nursing instructor. Jane had a deep passion for health and fitness and cherished her daily walks to Pilots Point Marina and visits to Cocoa Beach, FL with her husband and beloved cockapoo, Rusty. Her selfless compassion, affable nature, and quirky wit and humor were profound gifts to all who knew her, from patients to loved ones to strangers she'd charm at the post office, and her brilliant smile was the brightest the world has ever seen.
Mary Jane is survived by her husband of 44 beautiful years, Donald John Drew; children Jessica Drew McBride and her husband Tyler of S. Glastonbury, and James Drew of Maitland, FL; sisters Nancy Meek of Massapequa, NY, Lisa Raine of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Christine Savidge of Media, PA. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Peter Trozzo.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 3rd, from 5-8pm at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 4th at 11am in St. Mark the Evangelist Church, McVeagh Rd., Westbrook. Burial will follow at Cypress Cemetery, Westbrook.
