Sam was born on May 19, 1948 to Sarah and Samuel Scott in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Sam attended Belfast Municipal Technical College where he received his degree in engineering in 1970.
In 1971, Sam relocated to South Africa with his then wife, Rosaleen, to pursue his career in mold making with the Grundig International Radio Company. In 1975, Sam returned to Belfast before emigrating to the United States on September 10, 1975. Upon arriving in Connecticut, Sam continued to pursue his career in plastic injection mold making. In 1979, Sam and Rosaleen gave birth to their son Conor and once again in 1982 to their son Caolan.
Sam achieved ultimate success in 1989 with the inception of his own plastic injection molding company, ScottEk Mfg. Sam was an avid designer, plastics engineer, inventor and mentor to young tradesmen. Not many understood plastic injection molding more than Sam. Sam’s legacy lives on today through young individuals that went on to build their own companies and careers in the plastics industry.
After retiring from the plastics industry in 2013, Sam dedicated all of his time to his family. There was nothing Sam loved more than spending time with his grandkids, gathering for the holidays or enjoying a cold beer with his sons during a summer cookout. Sam was also a proud Irishman and enjoyed reminiscing about growing up “back home”. Sam was universally beloved by his family and he is sorely missed.
Sam is survived by his son Conor (Laura) and their children Abigail and Riley, his son Caolan (Kristen) and their children Brayden, Cayce and Shayne, his siblings William (Lee), Patricia (Ian), Shelagh (Bill), Rosina, Maura and Geraldine, and his ex-wife Rosaleen (Ken). Sam is predeceased by his parents Sarah and Samuel and his sister Kathleen.
Calling hours will be held at Swan Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 4pm – 7pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.
