Sandra “Sandie” F. Breunig, 82, of Old Lyme, CT, devoted wife of the late Roger D. Breunig for 59 years, passed away unexpectedly at her home on November 30, 2025. She built a life anchored in her Roman Catholic faith, family, and generosity—one she shared freely and lovingly with all who knew her.
Born in Meriden to the late Helen and Edwin Fontanella, Sandie graduated from Meriden High School and attended Central Connecticut State College. She began her career at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in North Haven, where fate led her to meet the love of her life, Roger. She later spent more than 20 years working as a school secretary for the Meriden School System, where her warmth, steadiness, and kindness touched countless students, staff, and families.
Sandie is survived by her devoted daughters, Kimberly Iannacci & husband William of Lunenburg, MA, and Darcy Agro & husband Craig of Haddam, CT; her cherished grandsons, William Iannacci IV of Lunenburg, MA, Anthony Iannacci & fiancée Taiisia Illichevska of Lunenburg, MA, Connor Agro & wife Olivia of Boston, MA, and Ryan Agro & fiancée Marina DeThomas of Milford, CT; her loving brother, Ross Fontanella & his wife Rose of Middlefield, CT; as well as nephew Steven Fontanella and niece Christine Rice. She also leaves behind her dearest friends including those from Meriden, Old Lyme and North Hutchinson Island, whose companionship enriched her life deeply.
After retiring, Sandie and Roger moved from Wallingford to Rogers Lake in Old Lyme, CT, and spent more than two decades as snowbirds on North Hutchinson Island. She embraced each chapter of life wholeheartedly: playing in the Fenwick Ladies Golf League and supporting its philanthropic efforts; serving as a docent at the Florence Griswold Museum; volunteering at the Old Lyme Library; participating in a beloved book club; and living her faith as an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church.
A lifelong lover of the water, Sandie spent 59 years boating alongside Roger, proudly serving as his first mate. Together they enjoyed more than 50 years as members of the Pattaconk Yacht Club and the Meriden Power Squadron, developing lifelong friendships and treasured memories. Sandie and Roger also met many new friends during their worldwide travels and cherished family trips with their daughters and grandchildren. Her favorite journeys included a three-week adventure through the national parks of the American West with Roger and their girls, and an unforgettable Alaskan cruise.
Sandie delighted in the simple joys of life: shopping days with Kim and Darcy, impromptu coffee and sweet treats with her girlfriends, a good book paired with a cup of tea, and quiet evenings curled up on the couch. She loved a beautiful sunset over Rogers Lake, holiday gatherings, hiking outings, and was often found dancing and singing around the house to her favorite music. She had a warm smile for everyone and ended every phone call with her signature farewell: “Love to the family!”
A saintly woman, Sandie’s selfless love, steady prayer and her relationship with Jesus Christ, and gentle strength made her a role model to all who knew her. During the last four years of her life, she cared for Roger with unwavering devotion—a true testament to her boundless heart.
She will be profoundly missed beyond words. Her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue to shine through her family, her friends, and all whose lives she touched.
