

Sophie Woch Burr, 83, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to many, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2014, with her sons by her side in Westerly, RI. Born in Fosston, Saskatchewan, Canada; and later moving to Welland Ontario, she lived most of her life at Knollwood Beach in Old Saybrook. Sophie worked as a retail associate for over 30 years, most recently at Marshalls, and received many awards for her excellence in customer service. She was a communicant of St. John’s Catholic Church in Old Saybrook for 55 years, where she was quite active with the Columbiettes, Ladies Guild and various fundraising activities. She lived a very simple lifestyle but made her philanthropic activities a priority in her life.
Sophie leaves a son, Greg and his partner Wendy Hurlbert of Westbrook, CT, a son Kevin and his wife Mandy, granddaughters Jackie, Michaela, and Randi of Westerly, RI; brothers Myron Woch and Edward Woch, and her sister Ann Woch all of Welland Ontario. She was predeceased by her infant son, Richard Randolph, with whom she is now reunited.
She will be greatly missed for her tenacity during challenging times, and her deep devotion to the Church she loved so dearly. The family would like to thank the many patient and compassionate caregivers she encountered during her last 8 months dealing with injuries and recovery.
Her family will receive friends Friday, December 19, from 4-6 p.m. at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, December 20, 10 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, 161 Main Street, Old Saybrook. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
