

William Morris, 94, of Clinton, passed away peacefully on June 2. Bill was born on June 12, 1917 in New London to the late Celia (Darcy) Morris and Clarence Morris. He spent most of his early years in Essex and Old Saybrook where he excelled on the baseball diamond and tennis court. Bill graduated from Old Saybrook High School in 1936 and began a long career with the Civil Service. During WWII he served with both the US Navy and Army and later enlisted in the Army Reserves. Bill spent 37 years working at the Sub Base in Groton, most of those as the Director of Transportation. Bill enjoyed his retirement, spending many winters in Key West Florida where he was an avid boater, kayaker, and Irishman. Bill was a life member of the Westbrook Elks Lodge 1784, the Key West American Legion Post #0028, and the Loyal Order of the Moose, Palm Harbor, Florida. Bill was also a proud member of the Cow Hill Yacht Club, serving as Commodore in 1978. Bill remained active well into his nineties and was always a gracious host to friends, neighbors, and family. Left to mourn him are his daughters Patricia (Lionel) Levesque of Old Saybrook, and Carol (William) Kavanagh of Auburn, California, stepson Thomas Sheehan, granddaughters Carrie Levesque (Matt Rutan) of Citrus Springs, FL, Nicole (Thomas) Flaherty of Clinton, Megan (Jason) Curtis of Rocklin, California, and grandson Kyle Kavanagh of Roseville, California. “Grampa Great” is survived by five beautiful great grandchildren, Gabriel Rutan, Aiden and Ellie Curtis, and Lena and Nola Flaherty. Bill was predeceased by his son Richard Morris and wives Lena Morris and Marion Morris.
