Levant – Barrett “Gene” Clark, 90, took his final flight into eternity on the evening of August 14, 2023, surrounded by his family. Gene was born on October 5, 1932, in Dennison, Ohio, the son of James E. and Irma I. (Barrett) Clark.
Gene grew up in Ohio and was a graduate from Dennison High School, class of 1950. After high school Gene went to serve his country in the Air Force, as Military Police from 1951 to 1955. After his four years in the service, he went on to work for General Electric from 1956 to 1972, only to find his way back to the service and coming to Maine to work for the Air National Guard. In 1981, his “Buckeye” spirit, drew him back to Ohio to work for the Ohio Air National Guard until his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed all of his years in the service and on his details, making many friends through multiple states.
Gene’s life wasn’t all about his work, though he loved his country, he loved his wife Mary more. Mary and Gene spent their time together, creating a wonderful family of four kids, whom they cherished. Gene and Mary’s lives together took them all over the world, traveling to other countries, states and seeing many lighthouses throughout the United States. To say the two of them were able to cross off a “few” items off their bucket list was an understatement. Gene also enjoyed spending time watching “The Ohio State” beat their rival “Ichigan” on every occasion possible, as well as watching the GOAT play on the New England Patriots. When it wasn’t football season, you could find Gene fishing, woodworking or constantly puttering.
Gene will be greatly missed by his children, Tim Clark and his wife Irina, Don Clark and his wife Sherri, and Jonna Elliott and her husband Glenn; his seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and his sister, Brenda Velley and her husband John. In addition to his parents, Gene was predeceased by his wife, Mary; his son, Bruce; his grandson, David Barrett and his sister, Alicia Dowdle.
Friends may call Monday, August 21, 2023, from 12-1PM at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, ME, with a Celebration of Life at 1PM.
