It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Douglas John Sockbeson, age 21, of Indian Island, ME, on December 16, 2020. Douglas was born on July 20, 1999, the beloved son of Mark and Sylvia Sockbeson in Norwich, CT.
Douglas was raised by the ocean in Westerly, RI. The ocean was his escape from reality, he paddled out to his utopia and surfed in every wave he thought worthy of him. He traveled to numerous countries around the world, chasing only the best waves. Douglas was also an avid skier, hiker, and fisherman. He was truly a radiant soul full of knowledge and random facts that he loved to share with others. One of the many talents he was proud of and his family loved to show off was his ability to solve a Rubik’s cube in 20 seconds and the 5X5 cube in 60 seconds!
Douglas was a kind and compassionate soul, always eager to give the shirt off his back. He was adventurous and his love for humankind had no limits.
Douglas is survived by his beloved parents Mark and Sylvia Sockbeson, sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Teoudi Khachatourian, sister Elisha Sockbeson, brother Nyle Sockbeson, nephews Aiden and Elias, nieces Sadie and Madelyn, grandparents John Loftus and Elizabeth Sockbeson, nana Alice Shaw and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Douglas was predeceased by his grandfather Douglas Francis and his aunt Rachel Sockbeson.
Due to the current pandemic a memorial service is planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Douglas’ name to The Humane Society of the United States.
