Bradley and Orono
Joyce E (Stratton) Trask, 91, passed away April 17,2020, at a local health care facility. She was born January 9, 1929, on the family farm in Chester, the daughter of John C Stratton Sr. and Mildred A (Wellington) Stratton.
Joyce spent her younger years growing up on the family farm. A place she spoke of fondly throughout the years. Nobody could tell a story quite like she did. She usually told you how it was and she was most always right.
Joyce met and married Luther Trask, settling in Bradley. There they raised 10 children. We say 10, but thru the years there were many more she considered hers. She was well known for taking care of her babies and her cooking. All the kids in the neighborhood would line up for the homemade donuts, cookies, cakes, and pies. So much so that a few of her sons made a little profit off the homemade goodies.
In her later years, she drove bus for over 25 years for Cyr Bus. There she accumulated a whole new family of children. She enjoyed her many years of driving bus with her husband. Driving kids to games and events was always something they enjoyed doing together.
With Luther being a WWII veteran, their passion was the VFW Post #3381 in Old Town. She enjoyed the bowling leagues and a good game of cribbage. There she held numerous positions, including Ladies Auxiliary President. They volunteered their time for many VFW events. The Maine Veteran’s Home in Bangor was their favorite.
When Joyce’s health began to fail, she moved to Orono to live with her daughter Betsy. There she enjoyed spending time with several grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially Connor. He always brightened her day with a Hi Nan Joy. Also, her granddaughter, Mandy, that we always said was the 11th child.
Joyce was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Luther, and three sons,
John, Byron and Bruce, a brother Keith Stratton, and a great granddaughter Sara Nicole MacArthur.
She is survived by her children, Connie Albanese of Milford, Tim Trask of Old Town, Keith and his wife Faith of Verona NY, Robert Trask and his wife Jane of Albany GA, Betsy Brooks and her husband Ricky of Orono, Eric Trask and his wife Barbara of Milford and Tracy Thompson and her fiancé Matthew Doak of Hampden. Joyce is also survived by her sisters Alberta Gould and her husband Ken of Etna, Jeanie Smart of Chester and her brother John C Stratton Jr and his wife Sharon of Mattawamkeag, and two sister in laws Linda Stratton of Chester and Gladys Trask Bridges of Bangor. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren,33 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter Lyla, who she looked forward to meeting as well as several nieces and nephews. All viewing and services will be private, family only. The family would like to thank the Maine Veteran’s Home in Bangor for the loving and compassionate care that Mom received in the few short months she was there. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Maine Veteran’s Home, activities department, 44 Hogan Rd., Bangor Me 04401
