Orman lived a good long life, he was born May 8, 1925 a son of Linwood K. and Angie E. (Pelkey) Carroll. At the age of 18, he joined the US Army Infantry and served in Europe in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. Following his discharge from the Army, he returned to Maine and married Doris M. Shirland. He worked for the Maine Forest Service as a fire patrol/Ranger and was stationed at Chesuncokk Lake. In 1955, he returned home to Greenbush and went to work for the US Forest Service as a research technician, and managed the Penobscot Experimental Forest in Bradley. In 1979 Orman retired and spent several winters in Florida with his wife. Orman loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He always said that spring was his favorite season because everything was coming to life.
Orman will be loving remembered by his wife Doris, of 71 years; his children Beverly Coffin (Russell), Patricia St. Louis (Dan), and Lorraine Faloon; fondly remembered by his five grandchildren Michelle and Travis Coffin, Christopher St. Louis, Nicholas Sherman, and Erin Veino; 6 great grandchildren Gavin, Cruz, and Miah Coffin, Lauren and Allison Veino, and Blakelyn Sherman; and a brother Elden Carroll and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by grandson Troy, brothers Linwood "Bud" and Durwood "Tarz", sister Sharon and son-in-law Allen.
A celebration of life gathering will be held 6-8PM Tuesday at the Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St Old Town. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted 11AM Wednesday at the Greenbush Cemetery on Route 2.
