

HUDSON—Richard L. Shields, 83, died March 16, 2014, at home with his family in Old Town where he has resided for the last two years. He was born May 13, 1930 in Johnsonburg, PA a son of Amon C. and Anna I. (Jordan) Shields.
Dick, as he was known by many, proudly served his country during the Korean War as a member of the US Navy serving a total of 9 years. Upon his discharge from the service, he returned to Maine to raise his family and began a long and renowned career in fine home building and master cabinet making. In his younger years he restored many historical homes in the Bangor area. The later part of his career was spent in his Hudson shop, building custom cabinetry and occasional furniture pieces. He enjoyed fishing, playing harmonica, and being with his family. He loved his grandchildren dearly.
He is survived by his daughter Betsy Regan and her husband Argo Michael of Old Town; seven grandchildren Jeremy Gallant and his companion Jenessa Bushey of Hampden, Monica King and her husband Wayne of Glenburn, Amanda Cleary and her husband Balakw of Sarasota, FL, Adam and Nate Regan of Old Town; Sarah and Shelby Shields of LA; step-granddaughter Dyanne Gillespie-Regan of Guilford; five great grandchildren with one more on the way; two brothers Doug Shields and his wife Betty of Sacremento, CA and Paul Shields and his wife Evelyn of Stetson; his constant companion Mary Inman of Glenburn. He was predeceased by his wife Joanne in 1996, a son and daughter-in-law James and Sandra Shields, and a daughter Betty Brown.
Friends may call 5-7PM Friday at the Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St Old Town where a funeral service will be conducted 11AM Saturday. Burial with military honors will be at Mt.
