Sue was born on December 7, 1946, in Old Town, Maine. She was the fourth out of nine children, born to Ernest and Beatrice (Taylor) Desjardins. She attended Old Town schools and graduated in the class of 1965. In 1966, Sue married Edwin “Mac” MacDonald and they had three children, Keith, Jeffrey, and Jessica.
Sue enjoyed doing many different crafts throughout her life to include sewing, beading jewelry, and woodworking. With her woodworking, she enjoyed the full process of picking out her projects, cutting out the patterns, assembling the pieces, and then painting them. Her favorite daily hobbies were her BDN crossword puzzles and her cribbage games. Those that have had the privilege of playing cribbage with Sue know that she was a cutthroat competitor who loved to steal points and skunk those that she played against. Sue looked forward to her daily cribbage games with her companion Ray and proudly advertised the fact that she had had four 29 hands in her games against him over the last several years.
Sue was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Mac; her infant son, Keith and her brothers Donald and John Desjardins. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey of Old Town; daughter, Jessica (MacDonald) Johnston and her husband Troy of Bradley; brothers, Ernie and wife Judy and Michael and wife Cheryl; sisters, Deanna and Bill Damboise, Fran and Chuck Lucas, Anne and David Wight, Tess and Carl Greene and her two loving and beautiful granddaughters, Kayleigh and Mikayla Johnston, whom she adored more than anything in this world, as evidenced through her many proud Facebook posts. Additionally, she is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins and she leaves behind her best friend and companion, Ray Grant.
At Sue’s request, there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Family, in Old Town at 10:00 am Tuesday, May 30, 2023. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Immediately following the service, all are invited to the parish hall for a light luncheon and continued fellowship.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The American Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.BirminghamFuneralHome.com for the MacDonald family.
