

Presque Isle and Old Town-Velda Allen Williams 95, died April 2, 2014 at an Orono health care facility. She was born May 18, 1918 in Presque Isle a daughter of Raymond C. and Blanche N. (Welch) Allen.
Velda was a strong careful, and meticulous woman of tremendous character and expected nothing less than perfection from herself. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. Velda was active on the family farm in Presque Isle and enjoyed potato farming and picked potatoes well into her 80’s. She also worked as a baker at the University of Maine in Presque Isle. She loved to cook , family gatherings on the farm, and enjoyed family visits. She moved to Old Town in 2001 to live with her daughter.
She is survived by 2 children Joy LaBree and her husband Robert of Old Town; and Philip Scott Williams and his wife Kimberly of Stratham, NH; son-in-law Jahn Walo of Providence, RI; six grandchildren Hardy Hemphill and wife Afsaneh, Anders Hemphill and wife Beverly, Chad Hemphill and wife Kecia, Jamie Hemphill and wife Kiley, Brittany Williams, and Serena Andrews; seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Philip E. Williams in 1978, daughter Trudy Walo; 2 brothers Clayton Allen and Hazen Allen.
A memorial service will be conducted 2PM Tuesday at the united Baptist Church, Old Town where friends may visit from 1PM until time of service. Burial will be at a later date at Estes Cemetery, Easton.
