

Alan Dale Humes, affectionately known as “Big Al” or “Oop”, passed away on August 6, 2024 at the age of 64. Alan never met a stranger and was always the life of the party. He graduated from Germantown High School in 1977. He began his professional career working for Seessel’s Supermarket and went on to have a career in sales working for Classic Oak Furniture, Accucount, Blue Haven Pools, and Lazy Boy. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf when he was younger. He also loved watching his favorite teams play, the New Orleans Saints, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Tennessee Volunteers. Spending time with his family was the most important thing to him and being “Pawpaw” to his grandchildren was one of his greatest joys in life. Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Ray Humes, Sr. and Virginia Ruth Doyal. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Nancy Bowers Humes; children, Brenda Dian Kilpatrick (Oneal) and Jim Douglas Cross, Jr. (Sarah); grandchildren: Brandon Oneal Kilpatrick (Ashley), Miranda Rae Stovall (Justin), Ryan Ingram Ross, Alana Kay Ross, Taylor Robinson, Jaxson Sean Cross, Melissa Ann Finch (Robert), and Amanda Kay Green (Bryan); great-grandchildren: Karsyn Brooke Kilpatrick, Raenna Dian Stovall, Adyn Michael Finch, Sydney Roxanne Finch, Cambrie Ella Anton, Carly Jane Anton, and Michael Shane Anton, Jr.; his siblings: Debbie Saxman, David Ray Humes, Gordon Ray “Pete” Humes, Jr. (Sharon), and Robert Lee Humes; and many nieces and nephews. In honor of Alan and him being the life of the party, the family will be having a celebration of life at Brenda’s home on Saturday, August 10, 2024 beginning at 3:00 pm that they are calling “Big Al’s Margaritaville”. There will be Boston butts cooked and provided with nachos and the family asks that everyone “BYOB”.
