

Elsie Jean Meredith Bowden, 87, died December 16, 2016 at the Hermitage Gardens in Southaven, MS. Mrs. Bowden was born November 2, 1929, the youngest of five children of Walter and Anna Meredith. She attended Memphis City Schools including Vollentine and Snowden Elementary, Bellevue Junior High School, and graduated from Memphis Technical (Tech) High School in 1947. She kept up with her fellow Tech High schoolmates and attended many reunions and get-togethers. She met the love of her life, Dan Bowden, at the Rainbow Skating Rink while still in high school. They married in March 1948 at McLean Baptist Church and had three children: Daniel, Becky Jones (Wayne), and John (Denise). The family moved to the Charjean neighborhood in 1953 where they were all active at Charjean Baptist Church and the many activities at Charjean School. Later, they moved to the Germantown area where Dan and Jean spent many happy years. They were active members of Germantown Baptist Church for nearly 50 years. Jean is preceded in death by all of her brothers and her sister, John Tillman (JT) Meredith, Joyce Wilson, Tom Meredith, and Jack Meredith. She is survived by her three children, ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Monday, December 19, 2016 from 5-7pm and the funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 10am, all at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum St. Olive Branch, MS 38654. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Independence, MS.
