

Gladys Hughey Carter passed away peacefully on February 6, 2015 at her home. She was born on April 16, 1922 to James Nall and Lula Ham Hughey who resided on Bethel Road in Olive Branch, Mississippi. She was the widow of James Malcolm (Red) Carter. She had one daughter Joan and her husband Paul Kelly. Three grandchildren: Robin Kelly, David Kelly (Leslie), and Mike Kelly (Lori). Six great grandchildren: Carter, Davis, Kristina Kelly-White (Andrew), Drew (Melissa), Jacob and Shannon. Two great-great grandchildren: Cole and David Ellis. Mrs. Carter was a member of Lewisburg Methodist Church. She was retired from the Mississippi Job Service where she was able to place many people in meaningful jobs. She was an avid sports fan, who enjoyed attending the University of Memphis Lady Tigers basketball games until her health declined. She was the last survivor of ten siblings. Those who preceded her were: James H., Clifton, Chester, J.N. (Shorty), Ernest (Doc) Hughey, and Mable Newberry, Virginia Gladden, and two others who died at an early age.

A gathering of friends and family will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2014 at Brantley Funeral Home with services to follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Lebanon Cemetery.
