

Harvey Lamar Rodman, Jr., 77, of Columbus, MS, formerly of Olive Branch, MS, went to be with the Lord on January 7, 2025. Lamar was born on June 4, 1947, in Grenada, MS to the late Harvey Rodman and Louise Lane Rodman. He graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Business Statistics and Data Analysis. He was an avid Mississippi State fan and enjoyed watching them play football, baseball, and basketball. He worked as a computer programmer and in insurance sales for Lamar Life Insurance Company which was started by his grandfather. Lamar formerly served as president of the Southaven Jaycees. He also served on the incorporation committee for Southaven. He was member of the Southaven Rotary Club and served as the President for a period of time. He received the highest Rotary Club honor of Paul Harris Fellow. In his younger years, he coached his son in soccer and baseball and served as the director for Southaven/Horn Lake Soccer Association and Southaven Little League Baseball. Lamar also served on the DeSoto County Convention and Visitors Bureau and was instrumental in building the Landers Center. He was a believer in Jesus Christ and his faith was a vital part of his life. He served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. He helped with establishing North DeSoto Community Church, which is now New Day Fellowship Church. In his later years, he was a member of LaBelle Haven Baptist Church in Olive Branch. He was also active with the local Alzheimer’s support group and Sweet Retreat Day Respite Center. Along with his parents, Lamar was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Spence Rodman; and his brother, David Lane. He is survived by his daughter, Shannon Miller (Keith); son, Spence Rodman (Abigail); and grandchildren: Addison Gayle Miller, Hannah Kathryn Rodman, and Noah Lane Rodman. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm with a funeral service to begin at 12:00. Burial will follow at Bethesda Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to LaBelle Haven Baptist Church or Grace Haven Respite Care.
