Helen Louise Brand

Helen had a larger-than-life personality. She loved selflessly. She never met a stranger. Her smile was radiant. Her laugh was big and infectious. Her hugs were warm and tight, and her kisses were always right on the mouth! She was sassy. She was tough. She was beautiful. She was elegant. These traits served her well through her many life’s adventures, whether she was laboring on the farm in Arkansas, working as the only female in an oil tycoon’s office in Texas, crawfishing in Louisiana, catching catfish in Mississippi, or winning a beauty pageant in her 80’s!

Helen was born on October 12, 1934, in Harrisburg, Arkansas, to her late parents, Arlie and Mary (Minor) Price. She married her late husband, Paul Brand, in 1950 and began their beautiful family, which was by far her proudest achievement. She was the beloved mother of 6 children - Carlie Brand of Chesapeake, VA, Paula Garavelli (Ray) of Colorado Springs, CO; Reginald Brand (Elizabeth) of Houston, TX, Michael Brand (Beth) of Dahlonega, GA, Patrick Brand (Ann) of Selmer, TN; and Angela Griffin of Oxford, MS. She was an adored Grandma-ma to her 19 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Raymond Price, Ison (Ike) Price, and Edward Price, and one sister, Shirley (Price) Betz. She is survived by her sister, Betty (Price) Galloway.

Helen will be greatly missed, but perhaps her friends and family will miss her voice the most. She was wonderfully loud and always telling a story or instructing everyone on where to go and what to do. When she wasn’t talking, she was singing. She sang with her family growing up, especially her sisters, and she sang and played her guitar in church choirs, state fairs, at weddings, at every family gathering, and even in her assisted living facility for the past few years. Heaven has certainly gained a new choir member!

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum St. Olive Branch, MS 38654. Burial will follow at Bolivar Cemetery, 18500 Massengill Rd, Harrisburg, Arkansas.
