During his time in Afghanistan, Luca and his handler faced particularly challenging deployments with multiple operations that were exceedingly difficult. MPC Luca served DeSoto County from December 2020 until his passing on February 21, 2024. While MPC Luca was serving DeSoto County, he was deployed numerous times on several critical incidents involving dangerous, violent offenders. MPC Luca excelled in his role at Desoto County Sheriff’s Department and was quickly seen as the fan favorite K9 in the group. MPC Luca assisted the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department SWAT Team on numerous high-risk warrants and other operations. MPC Luca has assisted numerous local, state and federal agencies during his career. MPC Luca certified twice a year in Explosives Detection and Patrol Work through the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association and American Working Dog. Luca will be fondly remembered by those who knew him for his goofy yet affectionate demeanor during his downtime. Additionally, he will be remembered for his commitment to the job at hand, always known for his work ethic, stubbornness, and desire to please. His absence will be deeply felt, especially by those who held the other end of the leash.
