

Arleen Marie Brace was born in Omaha, NE on May 26th, 1950 to Henry and Elma Mortensen. At the age of ten, her family moved to Helsingør, Denmark where they lived for nearly a year before returning to Omaha. She graduated from Benson High School in 1969 and married Howard Brace Jr on July 13, 1970.
Howard and Arleen spent their first years in Fayetteville, North Carolina at Fort Bragg where
Howard served in the 82nd Airborne. Arleen fell in love with the ocean and often used her memories as a
source of strength in difficult times. Upon returning to Omaha, Arleen became an administrative assistant at Woodman of the World until their first daughter, Jennifer Lea, was born in 1975.
Howard and Arleen moved to North Platte, NE in 1977 and their daughter Mindy Lyn was born in 1978. In North Platte, Arleen ran a daycare in her home, providing a loving, creative, and accepting world for many children in the neighborhood. She also acted as President of the Nebraska PTA, and as the head of the Family Readiness team of the 1013th United States Army Reserve Unit.
The Brace’s returned to the Omaha area in 1997 where Arleen returned to her first job at Woodmen of the World as a Marketing Administrative Assistant. In her retirement, Arleen enjoyed spending time with her grandsons Chase Robert Edward Vedder, born 1996 and Joey Sire Brace, born 2005. She spent every moment of her spare time sewing, crafting, and bringing joy to others.
She is survived by her loving husband, Howard Brace Jr; her daughters, Jennifer Lea, and Mindy Lyn (Scott) Zimmerman; her grandsons, Chase Robert Edward (Megan) Vedder, and Joey Sire Brace; Great Granddaughter, Laurel Chae (Chase & Megan) Vedder; and cousin, Lene Henriksen.
She is preceded in death by her Mother & Father, Elma & Henry Mortensen; and her sister, Ruth Cordes.
