Born in Peoria, IL then Ivadel and the kids moved to Anita, Iowa where she and her 3 siblings lived. Her mother Ivadel owned a restaurant there on Main St.
Ivadel and the kids then moved to Omaha where she attended North High School and graduated just after WW2. In high school she participated in the rifle club where she learned how to shoot. She had red hair which she passed on to her grandchildren in PA.
Ann was preceded in death by her older sister Barbara, her younger sister Margie and her brother Gale Rhoads.
She married Deane Tatum in 1950 and she later gave birth to four children, Denise, Mike, Paul and Teresa. Mike and Paul preceded her in death.
She was a young mother, who kept a well running household until her husband suggested she get a "real" job. She then worked at Northern Natural Gas for a decade, while her bosses notoriously "cooked the books", leaving many employees without their retirement savings.
She was also a "den mother" for her sons and other young boys in the cub scouts. She enjoyed that very much.
Deane and Ann settled in Omaha but also lived a year in Aurora, Ne. where Teresa was born.
She was a Christian, taking her family to church every Sunday.
Like her mother, Ann loved to cook and enjoyed most of all having her family over for special dinners and special occasions. This Thanksgiving she hosted her family and she'll be sorely missed this Christmas.
The only positive aspect about not being able to host Christmas this year is her grandchildren will not be subject to her attack cat "kitty." Kitty will be placed in another home she can terrorize the people.
Ann belonged to Christ Community Church where she made some wonderful friends . She is survived by two daughters and many grandchildren and great grand children and daughters in law.
Ann loved watching her Husker football team. She was lucky to witness the great days of the 90s but also rooted for them in their struggling years.
She lived in her own house until her death and was resilient through all her losses and gains.
A visitation for Belle will be held Friday, December 8, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5701 Center St, Omaha, Nebraska 68106, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
