

Bettye Ruth Johnson was born to the union of Jimmie Lee Ivy and Lonie Virgil Ivy on June 03, 1938, in Shuqualak, Mississippi. Bettye was known to her family and friends as Ruthie. She was the eleventh of twelve children born of this union. Ruthie graduated high school in Mississippi, and after graduation, she then moved to Omaha, NE.
Ruthie met and married her husband of 42 years, William J. Johnson.
She accepted Christ and was baptized as a young child in Mississippi, and later becoming an active member of Salem Baptist Church of Omaha, NE.
Ruthie was gainfully employed with the Campbell Soup Company for over 30 years. After retirement, She was diagnosed with breast cancer and soon learned of the support group My Sister's Keepers. Ruthie was an active member of my Sister's Keepers and traveled to Washington, D.C., to make a stand in the fight for a cure. She was awarded several accolades for her dedication to the cause. She also enjoyed attending Wesley Community Center for seniors.
Ruthie was proceeded in death by her parents, Jimmy Lee and Lonie Virgil Ivy, her husband, William J. Johnson, sisters Lonie Mae Lewis, Rosa Lee Ivy, Alice Spiller, Bessie Wiggins brothers Henry, Earl, Jack, James, Luscious, and Leon. Leaving to cherish her memory are sons Larry Owens and William J. Johnson Jr., daughters Terri (Anthony) Ewing of Alabama, and Lisa Johnson of Texas, brother Johnnie Will, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A visitation for Bettye will be held Monday, January 8, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5701 Center St, Omaha, Nebraska 68106. A funeral service will occur Monday, January 8, 2024 at 11:00 AM, 5701 Center St, Omaha, Nebraska 68106. A graveside service will occur at Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park.
