Leroy Robert “Bob” Miles, Jr. was born the second of seven children to Leroy Miles Sr. and Veva Mae Miles. He grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, and graduated from South High School in 1960. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving his country proudly for four years.
After being honorably discharged, Bob returned to Omaha and married the love of his life, Margarett Gail Simpson. They were blessed with 58 years of marriage, building a life centered on love, faith, and service.
Bob worked as a computer programmer for Western Electric (later AT&T) for 22 years. While working full-time and raising a family, he also earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska Omaha—a testament to his determination and dedication.
He and Margarett raised five children, whom he lovingly referred to as his “boy family” and “girl family.” Throughout their lives together, Bob and Margarett faithfully attended The Salvation Army church, where Bob served as a committed leader in various roles. He also volunteered his time as a chaplain for the Adult Rehabilitation Center, ministering to individuals in recovery.
In 1988, Bob and Margarett answered the call to full-time ministry and became Officers (pastors) in The Salvation Army. They served faithfully for nearly 20 years before retiring. Bob continued to serve in ministry roles throughout his life, never ceasing to live out his calling.
Bob was a man of many interests. He was a youth sports coach, avid bowler, competitive softball player, and an enthusiastic explorer of nature and national parks. He loved taking adventures with his loved ones and was a die-hard fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Green Bay Packers.
He found joy in the simple things: reading, playing games, telling corny jokes, watching movies (when he could stay awake), making people laugh, and most of all, spending time with family and friends.
Bob saw everyone through the eyes of Jesus and treated all people with love and compassion. His legacy of faith, kindness, and humor will live on in the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed here on earth, and we look forward to the day we are reunited with him in Heaven.
