Mary Alice Engleman of Omaha, Nebraska, passed from this world and into the Kingdom of our Lord during the late hours of October 10, 2020. She passed quietly at her own home with her daughter Nancy beside her.
Mary was born in Falls City, Nebraska on October 29, 1926, to Myron Creath and Martha Alice Franklin. Mary's mother passed away when Mary was very young and she went to live with various relatives, living with her aunts and uncles. Mary grew up in Falls City and graduated from Falls City High School in 1944.
On November 30, 1946, she married Eugene “Jack” Engleman at the Baptist Church in Falls City. Soon after they were married the young couple moved to Omaha, Nebraska were Mary lived for the remainder of her life. In Omaha, the couple welcomed the birth of their son Dennis, and daughters Nancy and Gail. Mary worked for many years for Northwestern Bell first as an office worker but later she became a forklift operator. She was always proud of being able to drive and operate the forklift better than even her male counterparts. Mary Alice was a ground breaker in getting woman to work in the warehouse and she strove to do her very best in everything.
Mary enjoyed collecting antiques and collectibles, she also enjoyed restoring and refinishing wooden furniture. For a short time, Mary and Jack co-owned a small antique shop where she did refinishing of the furniture they had for sale. She later worked for her daughter Gail at Leonardo's Art & Prints where Mary was in charge of finish work on all of the frames produced. Mary took great pride in working on the mitered corners and went far beyond what is normal in fitting and refining the corners.
Mary always enjoyed entertaining and worked for a time as a professional clown in partnership with Margaret Dappen. Later she tried her hand at acting and performed roles in plays with several acting troupes in and around the Omaha area. She will long be remembered for her genuine smile and joy-filled nature. Mary was always happy and filled with cheer, even when times were difficult, her spirit and her faith carried her through.
Church was always important to Mary and she was a long time member of Sunset Hills Baptist Church, Omaha, Nebraska joining the Church in 1959. At the time of her passing, Mary held the congregation's oldest and longest membership.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, her brothers Glenn, Myron Creath, and Robert “Kay”, her son-in-law Roger Ring, and her grandson Wyatt Christian Karlen. She is survived by her son Dennis (Deborah) Engleman, daughter Nancy Ring, daughter Gail (Roy) Karlen, as well as her grandchildren Nicholas Engleman, Lily Engleman, Victoria Engleman, Makayla Ring, Andrew Ring, Creath Karlen, and Madeline Karlen.
