

Michael Leon Wayne Sr., age 75, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at home with his wife, Stephanie, and his children Michael Leon Wayne Jr, Shavonda Lynn Mase, and Shondra Lee Wayne in attendance.
Michael is preceded in death by his father, Frederick T. Wayne Jr., Stepfather William Bohannon, and niece Kamila Wayne.
Michael attended grade school at Howard Kennedy Elementary, Junior High at Horce Mann, and graduated from Technical High School in 1968. While attending Tech, Michael was gifted in Art Class and Wood shop. In his home with Stephanie, Michael has one of his art pieces and a Birch lamp he made on display. While attending Tech High School, Michael was also gifted in track, football, and basketball. After graduating from Technical High School, Michael attended Hay Warden College, in Hay Warden, Iowa. In October 1969, Michael left college to join the United States Navy, where he served for 4 years. Michael completed his training in San Diego, California. After training, Michael was stationed on the USS Ponce commissioned out of Bremerton, Washington. During enlistment, Michael sailed from coast to coast through the Gulf of Mexico and many international countries including Saudia Arabia, Italy, Spain, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. Michael taught himself how to cut hair. This talent was noticed by his fellow crewmen and the captain of the ship. He was assigned as the ships barber. On October 19, 1973, Michael was honorably discharged with an E4, Petty Officer Third Class. He joined the Nebraska National Guard. Michael took advantage of the GI Bill and decided to attend Metro Technical College, where he earned a degree in Heating and Air Conditioning and included Auto Mechanics in his studies. He was very good at working on cars and could fix and repair just about anything.
After the service Michael was hired as a Cylinder Repairman at Union Carbide, which later became Praxair, where he worked for 38 years. For the last 7 years Michael worked part-time as an Assembler and Maintenance for Walmart on 50th and Ames Avenue.
Michael accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of 26, and attended Trinity Hope Foursquare Church. During his 49 years at Trinity, he served in many positions as Elder, treasurer, board member, and maintenance engineer. He was also known at Trinity, as Mr. Wayne had candies for all the children. Butterscotch, peppermint, strawberry candy.
In 2015, Michael and Stephanie started a small apparel business name from their middle names Leon and Lee, which became LL Transfer Design LLC. He loved to fish, cook, and became a grill and smoke master. Michael loved food. He and his wife Stephanie would go out and try all types of cuisine, but his absolute favorite was Chinese. He loved shopping and was the King of Spades when it came to buying dress, casual shoes, and sneakers. And the King of Hearts shopping in the clearance section of department stores. He was known as the collector of things that needed a home.
When you first met Michael, it was as if you had known him all your life. He was kind, caring, helpful, loving, and a giving man. He was a rock-solid husband, father, grandfather, great-grand father, son, brother, cousin, and friend. Michael loved his family and friends, without limits.
He leaves in the hands of God to care for his wife of 53 years, Stephanie L. Wayne, son Michael L. Wayne Jr., daughters Shavonda L. Mase (husband Cory), and Shondra L. Wayne. Grandchildren Devin Wayne, Jalen Mase, Daevion Burton, Tyler Mase, Sebastian Peters, and Clarence (CJ) Green Jr. Great grand-daughters Daeva and Aidyn Wayne. Mother Lenzola Bohannon, brothers Frederick Wayne III (wife Judy), David Wayne (wife Deborah), sister’s Kathi Stowers, and Lydia McIntosh, nephews Peyton, Brandon and Darius Wayne, Justin and Jeremy Wayne, Terrell, Torrey and Tyron McIntosh, and niece Mia Edwards. Sister-in-law Carla Prince, nephew and niece Reginald and Irene Prince, dear friends Maverick and Archia Lewis, Pastor Owen Taylor, and his Trinity Hope Foursquare Church family.

A visitation for Michael will be held Sunday, June 23, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5701 Center St, Omaha, Nebraska 68106. A funeral service will occur Monday, June 24, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home.
