

Robert Hall Whitcomb, age 94, passed away at 5 p.m. on Friday February 26th, at Saunders Medical Center, Wahoo, Nebraska. Robert was the son of Mildred Hall-Whitcomb, and Lee Arthur Whitcomb, born in Lincoln, Nebraska on January 16th, 1927.
Robert attended school during the Depression and was a student at many schools throughout Nebraska, Iowa, Oregon, and California. He graduated from high school at Pasadena High School, 0Pasadena, California in December of 1944.
Robert joined the Navy in January 1945 and after completing training was assigned as a radar operator on board a destroyer escort. WWII ended prior to his ship’s assignment to the Pacific Combat area.
After the war, Robert returned to Lincoln, Nebraska where his parents were now living and attended the University of Nebraska for a few years while also working. He worked as a surveyor for the State of Nebraska for about 4 years before marrying Caroline R. Johnson-Whitcomb on June 19th, 1949.
Two children were born from this marriage: Karen Jo Whitcomb on April 2, 1951, and Kevin R. Whitcomb on September 30, 1953.
During the 1950’s Robert worked for the bomb plant at Mead as a fireman. In the 1960’s Robert went to work at Western Electric in Millard, Nebraska, as a machinist. Robert retired from Western Electric in 1985.
From 1955 to 1983 Robert and Caroline lived in Mead, and were members of Alma Lutheran Church. Robert was also an active member of the Mead Volunteer Fire Department.
In 1989 Robert and Caroline moved to Apple Valley. Ca.. Robert was an active member of the local Lutheran Church there, and was also their treasurer.
In 1997, Caroline passed away from complications resulting from long term Alzheimers.
In 1998 Robert married Patsy Jensen-Whitcomb, and they resided in Salem, Oregon before resettling in 2003 in Post Falls, Idaho. Robert worked with the Civilian Air Patrol, and with the local Post Falls Police Department as a volunteer. In 2007 he was honored as the Senior Citizen Volunteer of the year for Southern Idaho.
In 2011 Robert and Patsy moved to Sun City, Arizona. In 2013 Patsy passed away, and later that year Robert (Bob) moved to Nebraska. Robert lived in his home in Fremont until 2019, and then moved into Saunders House in Wahoo.
Robert is survived by his son and daughter, Kevin Whitcomb and his wife Leah of Wahoo, Nebraska, and Karen Whitcomb-Eskew of Apple Valley, Ca.. Grandchildren: Julie Eskew-Sneddon of Kansas City, Mo. and her husband Jason Sneddon, Mia Whitcomb-Hammonds of Dallas, Tx., Sarah Eskew of Apple Valley, Ca., Erin Whitcomb-Crafton of Minneapolis, Mn. and her husband Jeff Crafton, Derek Whitcomb of New Brighton, Mn. and his wife Dawnie, Kory Layton of Apple Valley, Ca., and wife Jennifer.
Great-Grandchildren include; Halle Hammonds of Knoxville, Tn., Noah Hammonds of Great Falls, Mt., Chris Paul, Spencer Sneddon, Lindsey Sneddon, Sasha Sneddon, of Kansas City, Alice Whitcomb, Crosby Whitcomb, Willow Mikkelson, and Robin Whitcomb of New Brighton, Mn., Ethan Sneddon of Phoenix, Az., Kory and Keegan Layton of Apple Valley, Ca..
He is also survived by his sister Virginia of Lincoln who just celebrated her 101st birthday. He was preceded into death by his brother Lee of Oregon, who is survived by his wife Janet.
