Douglas Bourne Davidson

Douglas Davidson was born on January 3, 1927, in Franklin, NY to Clifford and Clara (Bourne) Davidson. After graduating from A.L. Kellogg High School in 1944, he worked with his father on the Davidson family farm. He also made maple syrup and enjoyed trapping and traveling the country. On February 10th, 1952 he married Hope Mongillo. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on February 10, 2021. They raised four children, Rosalyn, Diane, Mariane and Joseph.

Douglas enjoyed life on Handsome Brook Farm in the Catskill foothills which has been in the family for over 120 years and has been designated a Century Farm. He was a man of faith and was a devout Catholic. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oneonta and most recently St. John's Catholic Church in Walton, NY.

Growing up, Doug was active in 4-H and FFA. Later, he was active in many agricultural organizations including Cornell Cooperative Extension, Dairy Herd Improvement Assn, Eastern Breeders and others. He earned production awards for fat and herd average and managed a progressive Holstein dairy for 35 years when he sold the farm to Joseph. He firmly believed in education and made sure his children attended the college of their choice.

In his later years, he assisted Joseph with crops and helped cultivate the vegetable garden. He also enjoyed picking wild blackberries that grew on the farm. Douglas was an avid reader who enjoyed history and life in other parts of the world. He read the Star and Reporter cover to cover until he passed. He and Hope traveled within the United States, Canada and Bermuda.

Douglas was preceded in death by his father and mother, Clifford and Clara Bourne Davidson, his dear sisters, Dorothy Cartwright and Eleanor Shultis, his brothers Donald, Bruce, Reed, and Lawrence (Jim).

He is survived by his beloved wife, Hope Davidson, and their four children Rosalyn Davidson Fitch (Jonathan), Diane Gooch (John), Mariane Kiraly (Andrew) and Joseph Davidson (Susan), and many dear nieces, nephews, and friends as well as nine grandchildren whom he loved: Heidi Gooch, John Paul Gooch, Patrick Gooch, Ashley Klein (Ryan), Matthew Davidson (Jessica), Kelsey Davidson, Ian Kiraly (Julie), Alison Kiraly (Thavut Unchai), and Eva Fitch. He had four great granddaughters, Daisy May and Joy Lynn Davidson, Charlotte Rose Klein and Cypress Liliana Kiraly.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held in on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 10 am at St. Mary's Church, 39 Walnut Street, Oneonta, with Rev. Edward Golding officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Hope and her children wish to thank the devoted caregivers at Robynwood Assisted Living Residence and Delhi Rehabilitation and Nursing for taking such good care of Douglas. Special care was given by Crystal Scofield and the entire physical therapy team at Delhi Rehab and Nursing.
