Eleanor Donohue Hallock passed away November 29, 2019 in Oneonta after an illness. She was born on November 1, 1930 in Hell’s Kitchen Manhattan, New York, daughter of Thomas Donohue and Kathryn Cantwell.
She grew up at St. Mark’s Place, Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from St. Mark’s High School, Crown Heights, Brooklyn where she was the Senior Class President. On April 19, 1952, she married the late Henry James Hallock. They moved to Staten Island in 1958, where they lived until the family moved to Cooperstown, New York in 1971. They operated two local businesses the Red Creek Furniture Stripping 1973 - 1986 and the Old Mill Antique shop in Portlandville from 1987 - 2005. Eleanor was very creative and made pierced lamp shades for their shop. Eleanor was a member of the West Laurens Homemakers, and enjoyed the group’s companionship.
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, Henry in March of 2006. They shared 54 years together collecting antiques, spending time with their children, grandchildren and friends. Her brother, Michael Thomas Donohue, predeceased her.
Eleanor is survived by her four children: Kathleen (John) Brooks of Plano, TX, Eileen (Christopher) Coryat of West Oneonta, NY, Joseph (Wendy) Hallock, of Boones Mill, VA and Patricia (Richard) Bass of St. Louis, MO. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Mary (J.C.) Fletcher, Sara Brooks, Amy (Michael) Stenzler, Erin (Thomas) Campbell, Kaitlin (Jesse) Fernandez, Michael Coryat and his fiancée Linda Staiber, Rachel (Zach)Yaw, Benjamin Hallock, and Rachel Hyland; and six great-grandchildren, Catherine and Emily Fletcher, Aubrey Stenzler, Alistair and William Campbell and Iris Fernandez. All her nieces and nephews were an important part of her life, many consider her a second mother. Eleanor was the consummate mother and was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind wonderful memories.
Family and friends are invited to visitation hours from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm Friday, December 13th at Lester Grummons Funeral Home, Grand St. Oneonta, NY. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Mary’s, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta, NY at 12:00 pm on Saturday, December 14th Rev. David Mickiewicz, officiating.
