Florence Smith White, 97, passed away on March 30, 2019, at Crouse Community Center, Morrisville, NY. During the week before her passing, family and friends surrounded her with love, singing, prayer, Bible reading, video chats, phone calls and wonderful memories were shared and made.
She leaves behind three children; Patricia, Winky and Karen; 7 grandchildren; Michelle, Kimberly, Yuichiro, Kenji, Emilie, Eddie and Nancy; and 7 great-grandchildren. Her family members live in New York, Japan, Iowa, Virginia, Illinois and New Jersey.
Florence received her BS degree of Home Economics Education in 1943 from the University of Vermont and her MS from Columbia University, NYC. She taught Home Economics in four public schools and after raising her family, taught Interior Design and Clothing/Textiles at the State University College at Oneonta until retiring in 1983.
She was able, through sabbaticals, internships and family/friends to travel to many US destinations, Canada, England, Europe and Japan. She belonged to many groups and organizations and was especially active in many capacities with her church, the First United Presbyterian Church in Oneonta. Florence was an accomplished vocalist, loved singing and listening to music, especially organ.
Florence was an expert quilter and enjoyed being in the Susquehanna Valley Quilters guild of which she was a founding member. Her family has been blessed by her many creations.
She is predeceased by her parents, Alice and Alfred, her sister, Georgene, her husband, Robert, a granddaughter, Cheryl and many other relatives.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, June 14, 2019, at 10am in the Red Door Presbyterian Church, 381 Main St. Oneonta, N.Y.
