
He was born on October 16, 1945 in Cortland, NY, a son of the late Leslie and Edna (Purdy) Strobeck. Floyd grew up in Oneonta and attended Oneonta High School. On March 14, 1981 he married Rita Utter in Oneonta. Floyd was a proud cancer survivor, having been diagnosed in 2008; his cancer went into and stayed in remission the following year.
Floyd held several different jobs during his lifetime, including a truck driver for Vet’s Sanitation in Oneonta and a driver for the Oneonta Daily Star. He was also a paver operator for Lobdell’s Paving. In 1990, he and Rita started their own business, Strobeck Sealing and Striping, which they operated together for 17 years until their retirement in 2007.
When he wasn’t busy with work, Floyd enjoyed watching western movies, especially those starring John Wayne. He also loved to watch the history and military channels, any programs that featured war time history. Floyd was a huge fan of Johnny Cash.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Rita Strobeck of Oneonta; his children, Robbin (Samuel) Jackson of Cobleskill, Floyd I. (Kathleen) Strobeck Jr. of Oneonta, Katherine (Pete Conrad) Strobeck of Oneonta, Louise (Anthony) Huffman of Laurens, and Amanda (Frank Perez) Strobeck of Oneonta; his grandchildren, Tabitha Jackson and Samantha Jackson of Cobleskill, Floyd I. Strobeck III, Cynthia Strobeck, and Natasha Strobeck of Oneonta, Jermiah LeVeille of Oneonta, and Savannah Huffman of Laurens; and his great grandson, Samuel Jackson of Cobleskill.
He is also survived by his brother, Leslie (Sandy) Strobeck Jr. of Oneonta.
Floyd was predeceased by his first wife, Phyllis (Hughes) Strobeck.
Friends and family are invited to visit from 10am to Noon on Friday, August 14, 2015 at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta, at which time his family will receive guests.
A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at Noon following the calling hours with the Rev. Mel Farmer, retired Pastor of the River Street Baptist Church, officiating. Floyd will be laid to rest in the Oneonta Pains Cemetery, Oneonta.
