

He was born November 19, 1952 in Brooklyn, the son of Joseph and Florence (Peterson) Graves.
Rod graduated from Visitation Elementary School in Red Hook and Nazareth High School in Flatbush. Following high school, he attended Pratt Institute where he studied Art.
He served as a Fireman for the City of New York, and was assigned to Ladder 20, Engine 55.
He was an avid golfer and pool shooter.
He is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline J. Graves and her fiancé Roger Chamberlain of Otego; a granddaughter, Mackenzie Rae Graves of Morris; a sister, Kathleen Graves Mentlik and husband Tony of Grapevine, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his best friend Jim Walke.
He was predeceased by his parents and a son, Jarrod P. Graves.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, with the Rev. David Mickiewicz, pastor of St. Mary’s Church.
Friends may call on Friday, March 27, 2015 from 4 p.m. till service time at 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Rod’s memory are asked to be made to the New York City Firefighter’s Disaster Fund, Inc., 204 East 23rd Street, New York, NY 10010-4628.
