
Harry was born on August 2, 1922 in Oneonta the son of the late Frederick R. and Edith M. (Butts) Sinstack. He married Annabelle “Chris” Christensen on September 25, 1945 in Deposit. She predeceased him on November 12, 2004.
He served his country in the US Army from 1942 to 1945. He landed in Normandy D-Day plus 4, and was a military police squad leader. Harry was awarded the American Service Medal, EAME Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal
He was employed by Spaulding Bakery, Oneonta Dairy Company, among others, and retired from the work force as a caretaker for the OAS College Camp on West St.
Harry worked in the standard bred racing business for many years, either at Vernon Downs or Saratoga Raceway, as well as owning a few horses, the last with Gus Lampo and Doug Layman.
Harry was an avid bowler, and was inducted into the Oneonta Bowling Hall of Fame.
He loved the Boston Red Sox and enjoyed telling that to all the Yankee fans.
One of his greatest joys was playing cards with the “greatest bunch of guys” at the American Legion Post 259. You guys kept him going. Thanks to Willie, Bernie, Jim, Emerson, Tony Chuck and George. Your quarters are paying for our party.
Thanks to the guys at McDonald’s for some great mornings – they made his day, and special thanks to his “Gofer” gal, Kathie. She was amazing. Also, the staff of Hawthorn at the NYS Vets Home in Oxford, and to the many men and women who give their time and themselves to make life a bit easier for the Vets that live there.
Harry is survived by his two children, Bonnie Robinson of Oneonta, David (Grace) Sinstack of West Oneonta, four grandchildren, James Sinstack ( Johnna Nesteruk) of Oneonta, Richard L. Robinson, Jr.(Amanda Brown) of Sidney, Jeffrey Sinstack (Brooke Ganio) of Morris, and Eric Sinstack (Nicole Wilber) of West Oneonta; his great grandchildren, Aiden and Bryce Robinson, Kendra Barnes and Ethan Sinstack; his sister, Lois Judd of Oneonta; a sister-in-law, Lynn Sinstack of Oneonta; his niece, JoDee (Paul) Kogut of Hamilton; his nephews, Gary (Penny) Sinstack of Oneonta, and Stephen (Vickie) Judd of Oneonta; his niece, Faye West (C. Alan) of Troy, NY; his lifelong friend, Tony Drago, and thanks Marcella for all the breakfasts!
He was predeceased by a brother, George Sinstack, and a brother-in-law Claude Judd.
Per his wishes, Harry was cremated, and there will be no formal funeral. Interment with military honors will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery at 11am on Saturday, July 12, 2014 and everyone is welcome to attend. Enter the cemetery from Oneida Street across from Rent-A-Wreck (former Duke Restaurant).
Harry left specific instructions to throw a party for all his family and friends. Please join us at the American Legion Post 259, 279 Cheastnut Street, Oneonta for lunch following the service. If you can’t join us at the cemetery, please come to the Legion around 11:30 AM. We would love to see you there.
