Joined the U.S. Navy in 1964 through 1968. He was a plank owner of the USS America, CVA66, as he was assigned to the crew on its maiden commission. He reenlisted in 1975 through 1978 where he was assigned to the USS Barnstable County, LST1197. John loved his time in the U.S. Navy and was proud to wear his Navy hats. He was a veteran and a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his siblings Michael and Pamela Collins, Macomb, MI; Jeann and Donald Schuck, Holmes, NY; Deborah Gallagher, Plymouth, MA; Deirdre Collins, Albany, NY; Aileen and Stephen Farago, Oneonta, NY; Thomas and Margaret Collins, Bergenfield, NJ; and Maureen Collins, Watervliet, NY. Also survived by his nephews and nieces who helped care for him John and Mariellen Schuck; John Donovan; James and Martine Schuck; Joseph Donovan; and Jerilyn and Victor Olmeda. And his many other nieces, nephews and cousins across the U.S.A. and the world.
He was predeceased by his parents John and Mary Collins; his beloved sisters Mary Donovan and Joan Ingram; his brothers-in-law John Schuck; John Donovan and Edward Gallagher and his nephew James Schuck Jr.
