Mabel Arlene Murphy

She was born on November 1, 1925 in Sidney Center, the daughter of the late Roscoe C. and Eva P. Wilber. On November 2, 1947, she was united in marriage with Arthur Joseph Murphy, Sr. They shared a devoted and loving union for 39 years until his passing on July 14, 1987.

Arlene and her husband owned and operated Murphy’s Shoe Repair in Oneonta for many years.

Arlene was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and was an active member of the Rosary Society, and the Italian American Club.

She will always be remembered for her soft spoken and gentle nature, and as a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Arlene is survived by her children Arthur Joseph Murphy, Jr., and his wife Deborah of Oneonta, Doloris A. Kusmierz and her husband Peter of Morris.

Her six grandchildren, Marci Logan, Carrie Lynn Murphy, Joseph Murphy, Jared Logan, Matthew Murphy, Rosemarie Kusmierz; four great grandchildren, Daden R. Logan, Devin Jean Grace, Shane Magner and Kayden Grace; two brothers, Earl (Alice) Wilber and Halsey (Donna) Wilber of Unadilla, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Arthur, and 7 brothers and a sister, Harold, Lee, Alfred, Kenneth, Gordon, Fay, Fred, and Marguerite.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 10:00 AM in St. Mary’s Church, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta. Burial, weather permitting, will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons. Friends may call on Thursday evening, March 8, 2012, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta from 6 to 8 at which time the family will be in attendance

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Robynwood Adult Home, Catskill Area Hospice and Chestnut Park Nursing Center for the wonderful care given.
