Marion J. Hoffman Murphy

She was born on November 13, 1936 in Oneonta, a daughter of the late Joseph L. and Ella E. (Hotaling) Hoffman. On Christmas Eve in 1954 Marion married the love of her life, Douglas A. Murphy and would celebrate 56 years together until Doug’s passing in February 2011.

Marion worked in the Delaware Academy’s library as an aide for several years and really enjoyed her work there. When she and Doug moved to Norwich, she started working for CWF and the county planning board and continued on there until her declining health forced her to retire. Marion then returned to her hometown of Oneonta to live and enjoyed her many friends at the senior center, where they would chat and play cards all the time.

Marion is survived by her children, Barbara Jean (Allan) Perkins of Delhi, Michael (Donna) Murphy of Syracuse, and David (Sonja) Murphy of South Carolina; her grandchildren, Angela Jean (Jeffery) Rosino, Jason Allan (Sarah) Perkins, and Hannah Ruth (Josh) Murphy; and her great grandchildren, Joseph, Lia, and Vincent Rosino. She is also survived by her sister, Joan (Darrel) Yager of Union Springs; her brothers-in-law, Marvin Murphy of Florida and Bill Murphy of Morris; her sisters-in-law, Kathleen (Walter) Schober of Hillsdale, NY and Sandra Hoffman of Oneonta; her best friend, Pat Dusavage of Yorktown Heights, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas Murphy, and her brother, Louis Joseph Hoffman.

Friends and family are invited to visit from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta, at which time her family will receive guests.

A service to celebrate Marion’s life will be held at 1pm on Friday, June 24, 2016 at the River Street Baptist Church, 133 River Street, Oneonta, with the Rev. Frank Westcott, officiating. Marion will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta, following the service.
