Mary M. (nee Mahoney) Slack, 76, passed away on Friday, November 2, 2012 at her home, where she was surrounded by her six beloved children and her beloved Schnauzer, Tiger. Her courage, grace and humor were an inspiration to all.
Mary was born on January 19, 1936 in Malone, NY, the daughter of Dennis B. and Mary (nee Sullivan) Mahoney. She married Richard W. Slack on October 6, 1956. He preceded her in death in 1981.
Bio: Mary attended Bombay High School, in Bombay, New York. She attended St. Joseph’s Academy in Malone, New York. She earned her degree from the Watertown School of Business.
She was a telephone operator at Homer Folks Hospital, and worked as a media specialist and administrative assistant at State University of New York at Oneonta. She retired from state service in 1998. Since that time, she has enjoyed consignment shopping and working at Transitions Boutique. She has volunteered for Hospice. She had many close friends in Oneonta who offered support and kindness during her brief illness.
Survivors: She is survived by her children, Penelope Enfield of Florida, Marybeth Slack of Florida, Sally Thornton and her two sons, Carl and Duncan Manner, of North Carolina, Richard Slack and his two sons, Richard and Riley Slack, of Connecticut, Robert Slack of Pennsylvania, and Michael Slack and his daughter, Sabra (Maggie) Dayton, of Oneonta.
Mary is survived by her sisters, Sally Cooper, Ann Huntsman, Ellen Locke, Patricia Schulte, Jane Bahouth and Sheila Mahoney, and her brother, Neal Mahoney. She was preceded in death by her sister, Penny Lynch, her and her brothers Jerry Mahoney and John Mahoney.
A funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church at 39 Church Street, Oneonta with The Rev. Bernard Ampong, parochial vicar, officiating.
