Mike was educated in Oneonta schools, graduating from Oneonta High School and attending SUNY Oneonta. He was united in marriage to Michelle Shultis of Schenevus and together they created a family with Andrew Michael and Jameson Edmund. The boys were the center of Mike’s life; they grounded and taught him to appreciate everything life had to offer. After running his family business, Country Club Liquors, Mike found a wonderful home working for Opici Wine Company of New York, as a wine and liquor consultant. He truly loved his work, his co-workers and his customers.
Michael was the Pied Piper of fun, a true Renaissance man with a quick wit and an infectious laugh. He would give the pressed shirt off his back to anyone who asked for it, he was full of love and generosity and there are a few of those men left. He was a gourmet chef, mowed a mean lawn and could play a fun game of kick-ball with all of the kids in the neighborhood.
While on his daily travels he always knew the best shortcut to take and would always take notice of the small things that you and I might miss, a sparkling pond, an antique car for sale, an American flag blowing in the wind. He would often bring these stories to the dinner table at the end of the day, along with a fine bottle of wine and keep you entertained for hours. We were lucky to have him at our table.
Fortunately he has two beautiful boys that will carry on his tradition of being a loving, warm, beautiful human being. May they remember his voice and all of the fun times they had together. Those are the memories that will help keep them safe along the bumpy road ahead.
Michael is survived by his two beloved children Andrew and Jamie of Schenevus and their mother Michelle Shultis-Swiderski. He also leaves behind his mother Janis Swiderski of Largo, Florida, his sister Emilia Borelli, her husband Nicholas and their son Cooper, his sister Dr. Marianne Soden and her son Justin.
Michael loved life. He loved his friends too many to mention, you all know who you are. A special thank you to Darian and Karen who welcomed Michael into their hearts and home this past year. Please hold your special memories of Michael deep within your heart for his heart surely held all of the wonderful, cherished and prized memories of your friendship.
As Mike used to ring the bell on his front porch to call the boys home for dinner, we now are hearing a ringing bell in heaven for our son, father, brother and friend. And in honor of Michael who had the biggest heart in the world and in lieu of flowers; please take care of your hearts and get yourself checked today.
