Robert Sidney Smith

He was born on January 3, 1933 in Cooperstown, the son of Lynn D. and Marian L. (Seegar) Smith. He married Mildred Barnes on January 5th, 1952.

Bob was employed by Family Cleaners for 13 years. He retired as a maintenance supervisor for SUNY Oneonta after 25 years.

He was a loving and caring husband and father. A man of few words, but great wisdom and often you could hear him whisper a joke if you were paying close attention. He was always supported of his children and stood by their sides through everything. He was always there to turn to no matter what and everyone that knew him knew he would be there. He loved and cherished his wife, Mildred and always put others first. He will be remembered for his gentle and kind nature and will live forever in our hearts.

Bob enjoyed bowling, gardening, camping, and playing games with his wife and children. Many fond memories were made during trips to the Catskill Game Farm and Gilbert Lake State Park. He was quite fond of the crows in his back yard and quite often fed them pieces of bread.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Smith of Oneonta; daughter, Cathy Jo Smith (fiancée Joe) of Otego; daughter, Joyce Young of Delhi; daughter Lauralee Perry (John) of Walton; and son Jim Smith of Endwell; grandchildren, Jeremy Stimpson, Lisa and Tim Corbett, Scott Thomas, Billy and Bobby, Crystal, Michael, John John, Carlenna, Evan, and James; great grandchildren, Mike and Mackenzie, Izabella, Zackary, Lyric, Landon, Gabriel, Cassandra, and Cecillia; great great grandson, Jase; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his in-laws, Leslie and Eva Barnes; all his siblings; and a daughter and son in law, Julie and Richard Stimpson.

Friends are invited to greet the family on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 4 to 6 pm at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta.

A Service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at Word of Faith Family Christian Center in Maryland, NY on Tuesday January 23rd, 2018 at 2pm with Pastor Frank McCracken, Jr officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory are asked to be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or Boys Town, 14100 Crawford Street, Boys Town, NE 68010.
