Thomas was born May 13, 1930, in New Rochelle, NY the son of the late John and Mary (Seery) O’Neill.
He married Pauline Otis on July 1, 1950, in St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, New Rochelle. Pauline predeceased him on February 3, 2019.
Thomas worked for the City of New Rochelle Harbor Patrol serving as Captain from 1960 to 1977. Following that he became Superintendent of Parks and Recreation for the City of New Rochelle until his retirement. Thomas also ran the maintenance at various yacht clubs. He had a great love of boats and often enjoyed boating in the harbor and Long Island Sound. Thomas also enjoyed restoring antique cars. After moving to Mt. Vision in 1989, Thomas, being a skilled handyman, enjoyed working on many different projects. Thomas also loved spending time with his family.
He survived by his sons, Brian (Nancy) O’Neill of New Rochelle, Matthew (Joan Bookhout) O’Neill of Milford; his daughters, Suellen (John) O’Malley of New Rochelle, and Laurie (Charles) O’Neill-Shipley of Laurens. Thomas is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Erin O’Malley, Megan Valvano, Thomas O’Neill, Michael O’Malley, Sean O’Neill, and Moss O’Neill as well as 9 great grandchildren.
Thomas was predeceased by his brother John O’Neill and sister Mary Ellen Seiser.
A gathering of friends and family will take place on Saturday, May 15, 2021, from 2-4 PM in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta.
