He was born on November 7, 1944 in Zacatecas, Mexico to Jose and Soledad Chavez. He immigrated to the United States when he was 18 years old and settled in Los Angeles, CA.
He met Rosamarie Graciano during a trip to the beach shortly before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He served two years as a tanker driver during the Vietnam War. When he returned, the couple finally married and made their home in Ontario, CA.
Even as a young boy, soccer was a major part of Arturo’s life. His passion for the sport only grew over the years. He was active in various city adult leagues, playing on teams and serving on boards. Most recently, he served as Secretary for the American Soccer League and manager/player of the Chivas “Veteranos” team. Arturo was also a longtime volunteer coach and referee for AYSO Region 65 in Alta Loma.
Besides soccer, Arturo enjoyed photography, singing, telling jokes and hosting large parties at his home. He retired from Fleetwood Motor Homes after nearly twenty-five years of service. And in 1995, he fulfilled his long-standing wish to become a U.S. Citizen.
Arturo is survived by his wife of 46 years Rosamarie; his daughter Annette and son-in-law Patrick Macias; his daughter Yolanda and son-in-law Robin Rainer; his son Arthur; his grandchildren Samantha Macias, Patrick Macias, Isabella Macias, Alex Rainer and Danielle Rainer; his sisters Socorro Chavez and Sonia Borgia; his brothers Mario Chavez and Javier Chavez; numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and many beloved friends.
