Chuck Hopper was born on May 5, 1941 in Berea, Kentucky, although most of his childhood was spent in the Bay City, Michigan area. He attended Visitation De Notre Dame High School where he played on the football team. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served aboard the USS Hermitage in the 6th fleet as an E4 engine room technician. After four years in the service, Chuck travelled to southern California to visit his father, Steve Hopper. There, with the aid of his navy engineering experience, he was hired by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. It was during these years at DWP that he met Beverly, the woman he would spend the rest of his life with. They met in 1965 and were married on November 25th of that year. They bought a home in Hollydale on May 13th, 1966 where they raised Gary and later on in 1968, Chris. Chuck spent seven years with DWP until he and Bev decided to start their own trucking company, CB Transportation, in 1969. On April 17th, 1971, Chuck and Bev moved to Ontario. They sold the business in 1982 but he remained employed in the trucking industry until his retirement.
Chuck joined the Ontario Elk Lodge in 1976 and was very active in its activities and causes. He also belonged to the American Legion. He had a private pilot’s license and often flew cross-country as co-pilot for his father. He and Bev enjoyed camping, particularly in the San Bernardino mountains with good friends Frank and Becky Harlan. He enjoyed many activities with various Elks clubs, such as the Duffers (golf,) bowling leagues, the Breezy Elks RV club, and the Calso Elks Pistol Club. He was, in fact, the president of both the Breezys and Calso at the time of his passing. Chuck was very active with many Elks charity fundraisers and has worked tirelessly through the years at the lodge. He served as Esquire, Esteemed Lecturing Knight, and Esteemed Loyal Knight at the Elks.
