Dana honorably served his country in the United States Army. While stationed in Germany, he served alongside none other than Elvis Presley. Following his service, he remained active in his community, as a member of the American Legion, the Elks Club, and the Moose Club, where his presence was always felt and appreciated.
His career with the telephone company spanned more than 40 years on both coasts, beginning with New Jersey Bell and continuing through GTE and Verizon. After retiring from the phone company, Dana took on a new role driving a tram at the LA County Fair at the Fairplex. He was especially proud of his perfect driving record—never having been involved in a car accident throughout his life.
A lifelong lover of sports, Dana's allegiance lay firmly with his beloved New England Patriots, Boston Bruins, Celtics, and Red Sox—but he could also be caught cheering for the Lakers and Dodgers, too. Whether it was football, baseball, basketball, or just about any sporting event on TV, Dana was always tuned in, often with a cold drink in hand and a colorful comment at the ready. He also loved catching the news, weather, and classic John Wayne films. Dana never missed a chance to visit the racetrack or casino and held a deep affection for Boston, Maine, New Hampshire, and all of New England. His favorite musicians—Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, and Elvis Presley—provided the soundtrack to his many afternoons spent watching the game, reminiscing, or playing the lottery (which he was surprisingly good at).
Known for his quick humor and unforgettable sayings, his legacy lives on in the memories and laughter of those who loved him. He was a master of the little things that matter—doing the laundry, taking out the trash, chatting sports with anyone who’d listen, and being the kind of neighbor who always waved, always helped, and always made you smile.
Dana is preceded in his passing by his wife, Salina, his parents, Homer and Dorris, his grandson, Matthew Frei, and his sister and her husband, Patricia and Preston Stanley.
He is survived by his children; Kevin Kenerson, Dana Kenerson, Kara Walls, Craig Kenerson, and Cindy Frei, and their spouses, as well as seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, his nieces Debra Hiney and Dania O'Connor, their spouses, children, and grandchildren, and many other family members and friends alike.
He will be remembered as a kind soul, a loyal friend, and a generous stranger whose spirit touched everyone around him.
A committal service for Dana will take place at Riverside National Cemetery (22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA) on Thursday, August 14th 2025 at 2:00pm. All are welcome to attend.
