

Esme Patricia Brumell was born November 22, 1950 in Wakenaam, Guyana to Carlton and Drucilla Brumell. She was the fourth of six children. She grew up in Wakenaam with her grandmother, and at the age of 16 she moved to Georgetown, Guyana. It was there that the family attended St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church.
Esme attended Arthurville Government School. She loved track and field and toured all over Guyana running representing her high school. She was a skilled typist who went on to become a Clerk for the Guyana Police Force in Eve-Leary where she worked for 13 years. She was proud to be on the force and was known to always have a pristine and pressed uniform.
Esme moved to the US with her two sons in August 1989 settling in El Monte, CA, joining family who had previously immigrated. The family would later move to Pomona, CA where she resided for 22 years.
She earned her nursing assistant certification and would go on to work 28 years as a CNA before retiring in 2017. After retiring Esme enjoyed cooking (she was well known for her black cake, salara, pine tart, roti, dahl pori, and patty), cleaning, gardening, going to the casino, spending time with family, and watching soap operas (Young and the Restless, General Hospital, All My Children, Bold and the Beautiful, you name it she watched it).
Esme Patricia Brumell went home to be with the Lord on February 18, 2026 at 10:59 am. She fought until the very end. She was preceded in death by her parents and older sister Evlyn Brumell.
Esme leaves in loving memory, 2 sons, Lancelot Bacchus (wife, Monique) of Lakewood, CA and Leon Rodrigues of Pomona, CA; 3 brothers, Malcolm Brumell of Georgetown, Guyana, Bertis Brumell of Pomona CA, Carlton Brumell of Fontana, CA; 1 sister, Hazel Williams (husband Hector); 2 granddaughters, Shirlya Bacchus of Hyattsville, Maryland and Hannah Bacchus of Waldorf Maryland; 1 great grandson, Elijah Bacchus of Waldorf Maryland; nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
