Genevieve “Jean” Marie Abell passed peacefully into rest on April 10, 2025. She enjoyed a full life filled with travel, dancing, family, and friends. Jean was born on May 29, 1929, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Leopold Valentine and Anne Elizabeth Paulic. The family moved to Marion, Indiana in 1939, when Jean was ten years old. She graduated from Saint Paul’s High School and attended St Mary’s College in South Bend Indiana. She met her husband of 61 years, Charles “Charlie” F. Abell on the golf course. They were married on August 4, 1950. Jean and Charles moved their young family from Marion to Upland California where they raised their four children. Jean was a homemaker and active in community organizations while she raised her children. As an empty nester, Jean became a preschool teacher at St Marks Episcopal Church in Upland.
After retirement Jean and Charlie took up ballroom dancing, which they enjoyed for many years with friends and traveled to jazz festivals and events until Charlie was no longer able to participate. Jean and Charlie also traveled extensively for many years. They also enjoyed their mountain cabin in Cedar Pines Park. After Charles passing on December 11, 2011, Jean relocated to Mount San Antonio Gardens where she lived independently for many years and enjoyed the social atmosphere. Jean was lovingly cared for at Magnolia Grove skilled nursing at the end of her life.
Jean and Charlie have four children: Malinda Abell, Ann Abell-Shearing (Harold Kennedy), Cindy Norris, and Rick Abell (Sandy Abell); six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one great great grand child.
She lived a long and eventful life and is likely dancing and enjoying her 5:00pm glass of wine with Charlie.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Jean on July 8, 2025 at Draper Mortuary at 11:00 AM.
