A fan of NASCAR, particularly car number 5, he also liked watching classic television shows such as "Wagon Train" and "The Rifleman." Gerrit had a deep love for his birth place of Holland and his home city of Chino. He was talented with all mechanical things, a skill that brought him much joy and satisfaction.
In his community, Gerrit was actively involved with the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), where he made lasting contributions and friendships.
Gerrit will be remembered as a wonderful guy with down-to-earth tastes. His legacy is one of warmth, kindness, and a genuine love for life and the people around him. He is survived by his spouse, Karol Vanderstoel of Ontario, California, his daughter Lorraine Hovelson of Sequin, Texas, son Gerrit Brian Vanderstoel of San Bernardino, daughter Crystal Walsh of Rancho Cucamonga, step-daughter Tara Duffield of Yorba Linda, his five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
