Gregory "Jocko" John Giacomin, born August 31, 1965, in Los Angeles, California, passed away on December 1, 2025, at the age of 60. A long time resident of Upland, California, Greg lived a life defined by strength, generosity, and independence.
He was the beloved son of John and Dolores Giacomin, who raised him in La Verne, California. From an early age he carried with him a deep love of adventure and a passion for the things that made life fun. Heavy metal music was the soundtrack of his days, and his favorite motto, “Ride hard or stay home” captured his spirit perfectly.
Greg served his community with pride as a firefighter for 30 years and remained active in the firefighter retiree group. Beyond his career, he was a man of many talents and joys. He loved watching motocross, especially his cherished June trips to Mammoth Motocross. He enjoyed fishing, antiquing, and restoring old fire helmets, a craft in which he found both skill and satisfaction. He was also known as a great cook who delighted in sharing meals with others. In quieter moments, Greg found joy in his favorite shows and films, including Oak Island, Finding Bigfoot, Pickers, Storage Wars, Inglorious Bastards, The Gentleman, and Tulsa King.
More than anything, Greg was a family man at heart. He made sure to make frequent calls to his family in Indiana, especially during the holidays. His spirit was always lifted after he spoke to his uncles, aunts, and cousins.
To his loved ones, Greg will always be remembered as a generous soul with a strong heart and an independent spirit. He was someone who lifted others up and made life better simply by being himself.
Greg is preceded in his passing by his parents John and Dolores Giacomin, father-in-law Ray Perez, and brother-in-law Phillip Perez. He is survived by his wife, Veronica, sons Nicholas and Vincent, mother-in-law, Maria Perez, sisters Dina and Melissa Giacomin, brother-in-law Raymond Perez Jr., and several nieces and nephews.
He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
