

Helen Combs Baxter of Upland passed away September 2, 2024 at her home. She had just turned 93 years old. She was born August 28, 1931, in Huntington, West Virginia, the daughter of Charles Crawford Combs and Verda Shinn Combs. She was the youngest of five children. Her siblings, all deceased, were Phyllis Jones, Alberta Hamilton, Alice Hickey and Charles Combs. Helen married John (Jack) William Baxter in 1959. They moved to St. Paul, Minnesota to begin their lives together. His career subsequently took them to Marian, Virginia; Albany, Georgia; St. Louis, Missouri and in 1974 to Upland. Jack passed away July 9, 2010. They leave a son, Craig, daughter, Karen Means, son-in-law Don Means, and grandchildren Megan Means and Ryan Means. Helen and Jack were avid golfers and made many friends on the golf course. They were long-time members of Red Hill Country Club and later Via Verde Country Club. Helen returned to school when her kids were in college, earning an associate’s degree from Chaffey College in 1979. Helen enjoyed genealogy and was very active in The San Antonio Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution and other lineage groups. Helen spent the last several years at an assisted living facility in Rancho Cucamonga. There she enjoyed friends, activities and a caring staff. Helen Baxter- wife, mother, friend, good person.
A celebration of life will be held October 1 at 2:00 pm at Atria Del Rey in Rancho Cucamonga.
