JT was born in Oklahoma on March 1, 1927 to parents Julia and Emmitt Waller. He lived a long life marked by steady devotion to family, faithful service to others, and a quiet strength of mind and heart.
JT served his country in the US Navy and went on to a distinguished career in banking that spanned almost 50 years, including service as a bank president. Throughout his working life, he was known for clear judgment and intelligence, paired with a genuine concern for people. These qualities shaped the generous, philanthropic spirit with which he approached his community.
He was involved in many charitable organizations giving his time and support in ways that reflected a consistent desire to help others.
JT met his spouse, Shirley Weiland, in high school, and they were married 72 years when Shirley passed. He remained deeply proud of the family they built. He cherished his family and friends above all, and those closest to him knew him as loving and kind, with a steady presence that made others feel cared for and respected.
In quieter moments, JT found joy in listening to 40s & 50s music, reading, traveling, watching sports and spending time with family. He had a great love for animals also. He had simple pleasures that brought him genuine enjoyment such as visiting with his grandkids. He had a love for the beach from early on and spent much time there.
In his passing, JT joins his spouse Shirley Waller, father Emmitt Waller, mother Julia Waller, son-in-law Robert Sparrow, sisters Anita Pavlick, June Westmoreland, and Joyce Crumpton, and brother Dewitt Waller. He is survived by his son Rod Waller of San Marcos, daughter Allison Sparrow of Upland, 4 granddaughters, 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, JT requested donations be made to Friends of Upland Animal Shelter at 1275 San Bernardino Road, Upland, CA 91786.
