Maria Refujio Martin was born June 26, 1919 in Las Latillas, Jalisco, Mexico. She had 8 siblings. They grew-up in a farming community. At age 8 her family left the farm, and joined several other families who left their farms to live under one roof in the town of Tepatitlan, during the Cristero revolution (for approximately two years). After the revolution, her family moved to Pegueros, Jalisco.
Refujio married Justino Martin at age 18. They had 13 children. They first settled in a farm and eventually moved to Tepatitlan, Jalisco. In 1966 the family emigrated to the United States and lived in the Los Angeles suburbs. Justino passed away in 1985, just before their 50th wedding anniversary. Refujio remained in Rancho Cucamonga until her death at age 93. She is survived by 11 siblings, 30 grand children, 46 great grand children, and 6 great great grand children.
