Mike came to the United States in late 1981 with only a few dollars, but big dreams. He bounced between California and Texas in his early years, but eventually decided that California was his American Dream.
He worked odd jobs in the beginning to pay the bills and put a roof over his families head. Over the years, he built valuable skills and ultimately spent the last 27 years working in the steel industry, retiring as a Lube Techinician/ Project Crew member. He shared his knowledge of welding, hydraulics, HVAC and maintenance generously with his coworkers.
Mike was forced into retirement in 2021 when Gerdau shut their doors and closed his chapter there. While he wasn’t ready to retire, he was ready to be the best grandfather. Mike enjoyed his retirement with fishing, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a simple man. He loved his family, good food, football and fishing. Fishing and football were his life; Mike was an expert and was always up to date with his favorite teams and players. Most importantly, he loved his grandchildren Geramie, Grace and Gio. Mike made sure to not let his grandchildren go without.
Mike leaves behind a loving wife, Chon; three sons Le, John and Jimmy; daughter An; and three grandchildren Geramie (10) , Grace (7) and Gio (3); his siblings, brothers: Chinh, Vinh and Thuan; sisters Thi and Hoa; many nieces and nephews, and many beloved family and friends.
Mike will be greatly missed.
